A Senior Guy's Photoshoot Survival Guide

Seniors

You may have mixed feelings about senior pictures and you’re in it to honor your mom

OR you may be looking forward to getting a great set of pics

especially if you have a vehicle or location dear to you that you’d like to feature!

Whatever your sentiment, I’m here to help this be an easy experience for you! After your session you'll have pics that truly represent you that you're proud of.

1. Outfits:

  • Variety: Choose a 2-3 outfits/looks that reflect different aspects of your style- one casual, one dressier, and maybe something that reflects your hobbies or interests.
  • Stick to Classics: Solid colors, clean lines, and classic pieces like a well-fitted shirt, jeans, or a blazer work well. Avoid overly trendy clothes that might look dated in a few years.
  • Pay Attention to Fit: Ensure your clothes are well-fitted, not too tight or too baggy.

Typically, you arrive in your favorite jeans & shirt, then if you have a letter jacket we grab some shots with it. If you have a different shirt to switch out or dressier outfit to change into, we finish the session in that.

2. Personal Prep:

  • Haircut Timing: Get a haircut 5-10 days before the photoshoot so it has time to settle in and look natural.
  • Facial Hair: If you have facial hair, trim it neatly. If you prefer a clean-shaven look, shave the morning of the shoot to avoid any shadow.
  • Skin Care: If you have a breakout of acne before the session, don’t worry, I can retouch this while editing!
  • Nails and Hands: Don’t forget to clean and trim your nails. Your hands might be in some of the shots.

3. Accessories and Props:

  • Keep It Simple: A great time to wear a favorite necklace or watch.
  • Personal Props: Bring along one or two items that represent your interests, like a guitar, sports gear, or a favorite book. This adds a personal touch to your photos.

As much as possible, I want to incorporate your interests into your session- this will make it easier and more natural for you, too! A truck to lean on, a football to hold, your dog to play fetch with.

4. Location:

We will chat about a setting that suits your vibe! We can think outside the box, if you have an idea, let’s spin it, maybe it’ll work?!

4. During the Photoshoot:

  • I’ll direct you: It’s like a game of simon says- I tell you where to look, to smile or not smile. Not all the pics are smiling at the camera, what a relief!
  • Be Yourself: We work together posing you how you naturally stand or sit when you’re relaxed. Because you have to be relaxed to look natural, right? This is also where some lifestyle shots can come in- you doing what you love (like fishing or interacting with your dog)

5. Bring a Friend:

If it helps you relax, consider bringing a friend or family member along. They can give you a hard time & help keep the mood light.
