Mom's Survival Guide- How YOU can Prepare for your Senior's Photoshoot!

Seniors

So much info! Let's break it down for you

(because we both know who actually keeps your world spinning!)

1. Communicate with the Photographer:

  • Usually we get to connect before we set a date; during our short conversation you get to ask me all the things that you're wondering!
  • I'm always available by email; I've also received texts from the dressing room when you and your grad are out shopping- here to help!
  • Notice something? I am still one person, if it seems like I've totally missed something (like weren't we going to the creek, first, not the field?) or you notice his shirt needs to be tucked in, or cell phone out of pocket- YES, help a gal out!

2. Help with Outfit Coordination:

  • Final Approval: Offer advice on outfit choices (some of our kids still want our opinion- WAHOO!!!) but ultimately let your senior have the final say to ensure they feel comfortable and confident.
  • If they need help shopping their closet, pull out a few items that are a great fit & color for them.
  • If they need to go shopping, it's a great reason for a date- just the two of you, best anywhere 1-4 weeks before your session date so you have time to pull it together with shoes & accessories!
  • Bring Extras: Pack one or two back-up clothing options, in case something doesn’t work out as planned.

3. Assemble:

  • Pack a Mom Kit: Include items like snacks, water, & tissues.
  • Do you own a steamer? If you don't iron (like me...), either go to Costco and get a steamer OR have the cleaner's prep his shirt or her dress!
  • Best to have outfits ready to go- wrinkle-free & hanging up 1-3 days BEFORE the session! Package accessories in ziplocks and bag undergarments and shoes together with the outfit.
  • Bring Props and Accessories: If your senior has specific props they want to use, make sure they’re packed and ready. Heads up- I have it on good authority you may be carrying them around LOL

4. Manage the Day’s Schedule:

  • Plan the Day: You will both want plenty of time to get ready without rushing. Blocking out as much of the day as possible so your senior can focus on the session without other distractions.
  • Allow Extra Time: Arrive at the location a bit early to get settled and avoid any last-minute stress.

5. Stay Positive and Supportive:

  • If your senior might feel nervous or self-conscious, so a little encouragement goes a long way. We are going to have fun!
  • I know it's getting real that your baby is getting ready to graduate. Yes, I'm in this season, in the trenches with you, this is rough! But keep it chill- Your energy will affect your senior, so staying calm and positive will rub off on them.

6. Take a Step Back:

  • Especially if you have a director-type personality, it’s natural to want to take charge. Today, this is why you hired me! Give your senior some space for them & I to get to know each other, this is HUGE to help them relax and act naturally in front of the camera.

7. Enjoy the Moment:

  • This is a special day, you've gotten them to today, relax and take in how special this is!
  • Capture Behind-the-Scenes: bring your iphone & grab a few candid shots on your phone to remember the day (hint- your photographer will LOVE if you share with them!!!)

8. Celebrate!

  • Plan a small treat or celebration after the photo session, like going out for ice cream or dinner, and debrief together about the experience. (If you're in Sedro-Woolley, Dairy Queen is a popular stop. Some places like Five Guys are often open late, as well!)

This is an emotional season, Mama- I'm with you. You've got this, too. I look forward to working with you and your grad!
